West Point Lighthouse
Prince Edward Island · Kanada · Lighthouse
Lighthouse Willie, who never missed a night in fifty years, is said to still flick the lamps on and off in his Prince Edward Island tower.
The 1875 West Point Lighthouse on Prince Edward Island's southwestern tip is now an inn where guests can sleep inside the tower itself. Its first keeper, William "Lighthouse Willie" MacDonald, tended the light for fifty years without missing a single night, and according to staff he still checks on his lighthouse: lamps switch on and off by themselves, voices sound from empty rooms, and a friendly figure is glimpsed on the stairs. Offshore, there are recurring tales of a burning ghost ship sighted in the Northumberland Strait. The lighthouse regularly appears on lists of Canada's spookiest places to spend the night.
