An unwanted sailor proved to be the dark one, who in revenge heaped up shoals to wreck seamen.

Bound for Reval, some men of Dajs took an unknown sailor aboard, and a fierce storm broke. When the anchor chain ran out, the dark one was dragged out through the hawse-hole and begged for mercy. Freed, he flew up and scooped sand into his pockets, then emptied it into the sea to make shoals where seamen would run aground. So, the legend says, the shoals near Odensholm arose, which had not existed before.
