The Haunted House of Gràcia
Barcelona · Spain · Haunted house
In February 1935, journalists, photographers and an armed guard besieged a ground-floor flat in Gràcia – to catch the imp hurling crockery through the rooms.
In the winter of 1935, a modest ground-floor flat at Carrer de Francisco Giner 43 in Gràcia became Barcelona's most written-about address. Inside, household objects flew through the air, furniture shifted and things struck the walls with no hand touching them. The family spoke of a 'follet' – a malicious imp – and the rumour drew crowds into the street. Newspapers sent reporters and photographers, and even an armed municipal guard was posted in the flat to catch the culprit red-handed. No one was ever caught. The phenomena stopped as abruptly as they had begun, and no explanation was ever given. The case stands as Barcelona's classic poltergeist, and the house on Giner street is still pointed out as the enchanted dwelling.
