Rododafni Castle (Palataki)

Attika · Grekland · Palace

The Duchess of Plaisance is said to roam in a white nightgown around the palace where she kept her daughter's embalmed body.

This neo-Gothic folly in Palaia Penteli was designed by the architect Kleanthis for the eccentric Duchess of Plaisance, Sophie de Marbois-Lebrun. When her daughter Eliza died, the duchess had the body embalmed and kept it with her in the house, and after a fire destroyed the remains she was said to wander the grounds at night in a white nightgown. Ever since, legend tells of a white-clad female figure searching among the trees around the palace, and of unexplained voices in its halls. Today the Palataki serves as a cultural venue for the municipality of Penteli.
