In plot 29 of the Fiumei Road Cemetery, which Hungarians still call Kerepesi, lies the poet Károly Kisfaludy. When his remains were moved here in 1859, those present recorded that the newly set gravestone shifted by itself and that heavy sighs were heard, along with something like breathing beneath the ground. The story stuck. Since then the same accounts keep returning from people who linger at the grave at dusk: a cold draught straight in the face although the air is still, the sense of someone standing close by unseen, and the sound of a breath that is not your own. Cemetery keepers tend to say you should not stay at Kisfaludy's grave once the gates are being locked. The plot lies deep in the older section, where the light goes first.
