Kingseat Hospital

Auckland · Nya Zeeland · Hospital

More than a hundred apparitions have been reported at the closed psychiatric hospital south of Auckland — most famously the Grey Nurse of the old nurses' home.

Kingseat Hospital in Karaka, south of Auckland, was one of the country's largest psychiatric institutions from 1932 to 1999, at its peak housing over 800 patients along with a maximum-security wing and its own morgue. Since closing, the site has earned a reputation as New Zealand's most haunted, with more than a hundred reported apparitions. Best known is the Grey Nurse, a former staff member said to appear in and around the old nurses' home, whom a building inspector claims to have caught on camera. The grounds now host the scream park Spookers, where staff themselves report cold spots, furniture moving on its own and visitors who vanish into thin air.
