Petter Dass forced the devil to carry him to Copenhagen on a Christmas night — and saved the sleeping in church with a sermon that kept them awake.

From Bruvik it is told how those who had the book of black arts could bind and loose the devil. Petter Dass forced him to carry him to Copenhagen one Christmas Eve, for he was to preach there on Christmas morning but received the summons only the evening before. The devil tired and wished to sink, but Dass drove him up again. Then he claimed all the souls who fell asleep in church during the sermon — and was granted it, but Dass preached so that none slept.
