Laperal White House

Baguio, Benguet · Filippinerna · Haunted house

On the steps of Baguio's white Victorian mansion, a little girl sometimes appears – motionless, on the third step.

The white timber mansion on Leonard Wood Road was built in the 1930s as the summer home of the Laperal jewellery dynasty. The family's small daughter is said to have been struck and killed by a car on the street outside, and during the Japanese occupation the house served as a garrison where prisoners were tortured; several family members died in the war. Passers-by tell of a girl standing utterly still on the third step of the front stairs, and of a woman staring out from the upper windows. In recent years the house has reopened as a gallery and restaurant – with the ghost stories as part of the furnishings.
