The Forgotten Black Book and the Landslide at Horpedalen, Balestrand

Sogn og Fjordane · Norway · Sägenplats · Scare 3/5

Children read the devil loose from a forgotten book – and his restless labour loosed a landslide that took the farm.

In Balestrand they tell of priests and farmers who left the black book lying out, so that children or servants read the devil free. To bind him again, he was set an impossible task: sorting mixed grain or clearing stones from a steep scree. At Horpedalen he toiled so hard that a great slide of earth and stone broke loose and carried part of the farm's buildings down the gully.
