The Devil's Shape
Finland · Site of legend
Lean and ape-like, with short horns, glittering eyes, claws and goat's feet, so the devil was imagined.
In folk belief the devil was pictured as a lean, ape-like figure with a frightful appearance. Two short horns rose from his head, his eyes glittered and his hands ended in long claws. With a fire-fork in hand, feet like a goat or horse, a long tail and a shaggy body, he seemed pure terror.
