The farmhand swore all devils could grind his dull scythe, and at night they came in force, even the lame one.

In Vichtis a farmhand was haymaking with his master. When his scythe grew dull and he was told to sharpen it, he swore all the devils could do it. That very night, while out, he met devils each bearing a millstone on his back, down to the lame one who had not stayed home either. They said they were off to grind, and by morning only a stub of the scythe remained. A voice reminded him that he had called on them all himself.
