The Devil's Book in Uppsala Cathedral
Nyland · Finland · Church
The count was to sign the dark one's book, but wrote of Christ's blood instead and trapped the book at the altar.
This legend is tied to Uppsala Cathedral, where the dark one is said to have brought Pontus de la Gardie in a glass carriage. At the altar the devil asked the count to sign his book in blood, but instead de la Gardie wrote words about the blood of Christ. The book stuck fast to the altar and could not be torn loose, and was later walled into the church, where the legend says it can still be glimpsed.
