Nyland · Finland · Site of legend
Having divided all of Finland, the dark one reached the bogs of Loppis and cried in Finnish: let it end now.
According to a legend from Sjundeå, it was the devil who long ago divided the parishes. Having parcelled out all of Finland, he came to Loppis, which was nothing but bog and marsh. Too weary to go further, he left one of his men as bailiff and cried in Finnish, 'olkoon loppu, nyt!' From this, the legend says, Loppis took its name.
