It glows until you reach the edge of the cemetery. Then it goes dark, and once you are inside you cannot identify which stone it was.

There are no lights anywhere near to account for it.

One local explanation is that the stone contains phosphorus.

The more likely one is retroreflection: polished granite at a shallow angle throws back light from a distant source, most often headlights on a road, and the effect vanishes the moment you change your position relative to that source. That would explain both the glow and why it stops exactly when you approach.

It would also explain why nobody has ever been able to say which stone it is, which is the part of the account people find strangest.
