From outside at night, visitors describe curtains moving in the windows, windows opening and closing, and lights appearing inside a building with no power.

Inside, people report heavy breathing, loud footsteps and screaming.

The site has been called an asylum locally for years. The Felt Mansion estate was in fact used at various times as a seminary and, later, by the state police, and the buildings around it have accumulated a much more dramatic history than the record supports.
