Fort George — Ontario · Kanada · Fort

In the War of 1812 fort, seven-year-old Sarah Ann still plays peek-a-boo with visitors — dead since 1840.

Fort George in Niagara-on-the-Lake was the British Army's headquarters during the War of 1812 and is today a reconstructed National Historic Site with hundreds of reported sightings. Most beloved is Sarah Ann Tracey, a sergeant-major's seven-year-old daughter who died at the fort in 1840: her playful ghost is said to peek out from behind pillars, giggle softly and tug at visitors' clothes. Far more unsettling is the figure known as The Watcher, glimpsed in the fort's dark powder-magazine tunnel. Lantern-lit ghost tours have run at the fort since 1994.
