From Eidfjord it is told that the Evil One would sometimes change himself into a dog and frighten people from the path of sin, perhaps sent by a higher power. In Simadalen a party sat drinking and playing cards for money. One of the players dropped a card, and when he bent to pick it up he became aware of a black dog under the table holding the card between its forepaws. This was said to have happened about a hundred years ago.
