Palmse in Lahemaa National Park is one of Estonia's most lavish baroque manors, for centuries the seat of the Baltic noble family von der Pahlen. The estate is also known for its nocturnal guests: hotel staff tell of children crying in rooms where no children are staying, lights switching themselves on and doors opening in the dark. According to local stories, a ghost dragging chains also paces the corridors. Those wishing to test the tales can spend the night in the manor's guesthouse.
