In the mountain mist, red algae run like blood down the towers — and in the half-empty corridors, guests are said to walk who never checked out.
Amber Court looks like it is bleeding. In the damp and the constant mountain mist at Genting Highlands, red algae have grown in long streaks down the facades of the two towers, and the ghostly appearance has bred no end of stories about figures in the half-empty corridors and guests who never checked out. The building has become a pilgrimage site for Malaysian ghost hunters and was used in 2017 as a location for the horror film Haunted Hotel.
The two 23-storey towers went up in the 1990s as luxury apartments in the cool highlands, but the developer went bankrupt in 2000 and the complex was left to decay. The remaining residents play down the ghost talk themselves — and parts of the building are still rented out to brave overnighters.
