After the 1993 collapse that killed 48 people, taxi drivers told of a young woman asking to be driven home to the towers – only to vanish on arrival.

On 11 December 1993, one of the three Highland Towers apartment blocks in Ulu Klang outside Kuala Lumpur collapsed after a landslide undermined its foundations, burying 48 people in the rubble. The two remaining towers were abandoned and for decades became Malaysia's most talked-about haunted site: visitors and neighbours reported apparitions, unexplained sounds and cold spots in the ruins. Best known is the tale of the taxi passenger – a young woman who asks late at night to be driven to Highland Towers and vanishes without trace when the car stops. The ruins were demolished in 2019, but the site's reputation lives on.
