Fraeylemaborg Manor
Groningen · Nederländerna · Manor
The screams of a wrongly hanged servant boy and the harp of Henric Piccardt are said to still drift over the manor.
The Fraeylemaborg in Slochteren is one of the grandest manor houses of Groningen, surrounded by moats and an extensive wooded park. Tradition holds that a young servant boy was hanged here for a theft he never committed, and his screams are said to still cut through the park. In the tower chamber, the estate's lord Henric Piccardt – once a harpist at the French court – is said to strike up his harp from time to time, while in the Slochterbos the laughter of two children who drowned in the bog can allegedly be heard. The manor is now a museum with a park open to walkers.
