Nemerlaer Castle

The White Lady of Nemerlaer drifts in wisps of mist around the castle, searching for the husband who cut her to pieces.

Kasteel Nemerlaer near Haaren in Noord-Brabant is a castle with fourteenth-century origins, surrounded by a moat and old avenues. Legend has it that the lady of the castle was a French noblewoman who, pregnant and forbidden to visit her family, escaped through a window with the help of a maid – but her husband rode down the carriage, dragged her out and cut her to pieces in his fury. Her spirit, the White Lady, has since been said to drift in wisps of mist around and through the castle on calm summer evenings, still searching for her murderer. She is described as a friendly ghost who has come to the aid of lost children. The castle today hosts cultural events and concerts.
