Cruel princess Kunegunda, who sent suitors riding to their deaths around the walls, still weeps in the ruins of Chojnik.

The ruined castle of Chojnik sits on a sheer granite crag above Jelenia Góra, with cliffs plunging straight into the Hell Valley below. Legend tells of the beautiful but heartless Kunegunda, who promised her hand to any suitor who could ride around the castle walls along the precipice – knight after knight plunged to his death for her sake. When one knight finally succeeded, he scornfully rejected her, and Kunegunda threw herself off the cliff. Her weeping ghost is said to wander the ruins at night. Today hikers reach the castle by trails through the national park.
