Duchess Ludgarda, smothered on her husband's orders in 1283, is said to walk Przemysł Hill – her dying curse came true to the last word.

At the royal castle of Poznań, Duchess Ludgarda of Mecklenburg died in 1283, rumoured to have been smothered or poisoned on the orders of her husband Przemysł II, to whom she had borne no heir. Before dying she is said to have cursed him: he would never have a son, would die a cruel death at the hands of his own subjects – and of the castle only cellars would remain. It all came true: Przemysł was murdered in 1296 and the castle fell to ruin. Ludgarda is still said to walk Przemysł Hill at night and along the street that bears her name, sometimes followed by an enigmatic black knight who was seen inconsolable at her funeral.
