On a dare drunken Micks went for a cross to the churchyard, and the little devils threw him into the canal.

In Vörå the dead-drunk Micks was dared to fetch a cross from the churchyard for half a measure of liquor. Once there, the little devils seized him and threw him into the canal, where he screamed until the priest was called. All through the night he was pursued by funeral processions, enchantments and a fiery-red figure that grew to giant size, until at last he recited the Lord's Blessing and was rid of all the evil.
