In Sideby, Ostrobothnia, a small cowherd grieved that he had to mind the cattle while others went to church. A strange old man offered to watch the animals and lent him shoes that carried him dry-shod across the bogs. In church the boy saw the Evil One writing down all who slept or laughed; when the Devil's teeth flew from his mouth the boy laughed too - and found his own name in the book of hell.
