In Munsala they tell of a woman who pledged her son to a dark power in exchange for good fortune and was forbidden to teach him to read. As the boy neared fifteen she repented and sought the priest's help. The priest set the boy at the altar for a night, and despite the evil one's attempts in the shape of a bird and of the priest, he got free and composed a hymn.
