Mörkrädd: a married couple, twenty-five locations and a promise not to fake

In two years the couple from Eskilstuna have visited around twenty-five locations across Sweden and encountered everything from unexplained sounds to scratch marks. What sets them apart is not the equipment but a principle they put first in their own introduction: nothing is exaggerated and nothing is faked.

Mörkrädd are a married couple from Eskilstuna in Sweden. Two more team members work behind the camera, four people in all, and they have been at it for two years.

In that time they have visited around twenty-five locations across the country.

Their list of what they have encountered is short and concrete: unexplained sounds, a figure caught on camera, physical touch, and scratch marks.

The promise behind everything they publish

What makes them worth their own piece is not the equipment but a single principle, and they state it themselves without hedging.

”For us it goes without saying that viewers should be able to trust what we show. What happens in our videos is what we actually experienced on site.”

And the line that follows, which is the whole difference between a ghost hunting channel you can trust and one you cannot:

”We do not exaggerate and we do not fake anything. We are here to document what actually happens.”

That is easy to say and hard to keep, particularly in a format where a good reaction earns more views than an honest one. Putting it first in their own introduction says something about what they want to be judged on.

Filmmaking is half the work

The other half of Mörkrädd has nothing to do with ghosts. They love making film, and put a great deal of time and heart into getting the quality as high as they can.

It shows in how they work. The camera rig runs alongside the meters, and sessions are built to be followed back afterwards rather than only experienced in the moment.

For a team that promises not to fake anything, that is also practical. The more that sits on film, the less a viewer has to take on trust.

A podcast, live events and a growing audience

They have now started a podcast as well, and begun running events at various locations around Sweden.

”It is such a joy to share this interest with so many people out there, both through the screen and when we meet for real.”

And they are not finished. There is a great deal they want to do together with their followers, they write, without giving away what.

Two places on their home ground

Mörkrädd are based in Eskilstuna, and Södermanland is hardly short of houses with a reputation. Two of them are already on the map.

To be continued, in other words. We are looking forward to what they find at location twenty-six.
