At night, a sudden smell of boiled potatoes is said to betray the Dutch child who was once boiled alive in the cooking pot.

This white colonial villa from 1908 on Jalan Banda is known throughout Bandung as "the Potato House". According to legend, a small Dutch child fell into a huge pot of boiling potatoes during a party, unnoticed until a heavy steam of cooked potatoes drifted through the rooms. Ever since, the child's spirit is said to linger, and neighbours and passers-by report the smell of freshly boiled potatoes hitting them in the middle of the night when no one is cooking. The infamous house has now been renovated and operates as the restaurant Roemah Kentang 1908.
