Queen Hortense, consort of the Dutch king, is said to still walk the halls of the Pope's House in Utrecht.

Paushuize on the Kromme Nieuwegracht in Utrecht was built in the early sixteenth century for Adrian VI, the only Dutch pope – who never got to move in. In the Napoleonic era King Louis Napoleon lived in the house, and the stories say it is his consort, Queen Hortense de Beauharnais, who never quite left: a female figure that staff and guests claim to have encountered in the halls over the years. Paranormal investigators maintain that the house carries traces of tragic events from its past. Today the stately building hosts meetings and celebrations.
