Đa Cô Bridge
Đà Nẵng · Vietnam · Bridge
At this bridge on Đà Nẵng's outskirts, a drowned student is said to pull a new young woman into the dark water every year.
Cầu Đa Cô on the approach road into Đà Nẵng has been wrapped for decades in the city's most persistent ghost story. A young teacher-training student is said to have drowned herself in the dark water beneath the bridge at dusk late in the third lunar month, and ever since she is told to appear in different guises to those passing at night. Those who fail to show the dead respect risk her anger — and every year around the anniversary of her death she is said to pull another young woman down into the stream. Small altars have been raised at the bridgehead, and long-haul drivers heading into the city still leave a coin or a stick of incense, just in case.
