In Saigon's most infamous apartment block, four young girls are said to have been entombed to keep the building standing.

The high-rise at 727 Trần Hưng Đạo was built in the 1960s as the luxury President Hotel, but legend holds that the structure collapsed again and again during construction. A master summoned to the site is said to have declared that the ground demanded a sacrifice, and four young girls were reputedly buried in the foundations to appease the spirits — after which the building stood firm. The thirteenth floor was said to be sealed, and generations of residents told of girlish figures in the stairwells, weeping through the walls and lifts moving on their own. The block was eventually emptied of tenants, but the tale of the four maidens remains one of Saigon's most retold.
